I am opposed to this bill. I am a resident and property owner in Leilani Estates.
Those of us who live in lower Puna have chosen to do so and only the haphazard
purchaser has done so without awareness of the volcano, the east rift zone, and
Puna Geothermal. The majority of us love our aina and has invested our hearts and
our finances in lower Puna communities.
This bill can only cause grievous harm, splitting our communities, and allowing
insurers and lenders to deny future owners the ability to purchase property
adjacent to the proposed buffer zone. It would benefit those who want quick
money from the government with no regard for the long-term impact to the lower
Puna communities.
Do not allow this bill to be enacted.
