Council Members, Good Morning
My name is Mark H. Hauanio, I was raised in Kalapana. Now I live in
Leilani Estates for 30 years. Throughout those years my family and I had
no problems with any health issues regarding the Geothermal Plant. In
1980 I was employed with a drilling company called Water Resources
International.We drilled 2 wells in Lanipuna, 2 wells at the base of Puu
honuaula and 1 well on the top of Puu honuaula. The one problem we
incurred was the noise level from the drill rig. Though that problem was
corrected. I am writing this letter in support of the mayoral veto. Why?
Because there is no solid evidence that people were getting sick from the
Geothermal Plant. The Council has created a 1 mile safety buffer zone
from Puna Geothermal Ventures boundary. There is no evidence that
substantiates any health threat to residents within the area. There
needs to be a thorough scientific study and medical research. These
studies have to be done soon, the longer we let it linger we forget about
it if this Bill passes people and Homeowners could be affected.
