Ocean Power Technologies also has a contract with the U.S. Navy to install a 1-megawatt
system for a base in Hawaii.
(Later this summer, a New Jersey company will launch a series of buoys in the Pacific Ocean
more than a mile off the coast of Melbourne, Australia, to harness the power of the ocean's
relentless waves.The system is expected to generate up to 10 megawatts of electricity enough
to power about 10,000 homes—for the Melbourne-Sydney power grid. And the buoy system
should generate the power far more cleanly than conventional plants that burn coal or gas.)

please do something safer and cheaper than drilling into pele, with thanks from all of us in puna.

Ocean waves could soon be powering thousands of homes and businesses in the Reedsport,Oregon area,and a good part of the credit will
be due to the U.S.Navy.The Ocean Power"I echnoloies technology,called PowerBuoy®,underwent two years of development at the
Navy's wave power test facility in Hawaii,and this is just the beginning.The Navy recently announced that it will be upgrading and
expanding the site to provide more opportunities for innovators to test commercial-scale wave power devices.
Power from Waves
Ocean Power calls its utility scale version of the Powerl3uov the PB150.As the buoy bobs up and down on offshore waves,it produces a
mechanical stroking motion..That movement is transferred to a"power take-off'unit that drives an on-board generator.The resulting
electrical power gets transmtted to shore by cable.
In this latest step along the way to deployment,Ocean Power has completed factory testing off the take off unit,and• is being installed
into the buoy.

dear mayor and council
there is no need in puna or any of our beautiful islands for more geothermal.
you know about the very simple electric solutions available (sticking a rod into the
earth)people have showed you this, if not i can connect you.
my question is?????' why if cheap and safe processes are available, why risk these
beautiful islands '22'22
cheap federal money is probably available for this, but please know that i vote against
it.
thanks for taking care of our beautiful island and particularly for taking care of the
aina and NOT destroy it for financial gain, that is NOT HAWAIIAN.
you might not know that now every night except for some weekends we hear drilling/ motor
very deep sounds all through upper and lower puna we should have a right as people to be
able to enjoy living here, not being bothered with sounds for the financial gains of
county and state.
please billy and council you do not want 40 geothermal plants for your grandchildren
in this beautiful puna.
