Subject: Veto of Bill 256
Dear Council Members:
As a long time resident of the Leilani Estates subdivision, I urge you to uphold the veto of
Bill 256 by Mayor Kenoi. I agree with the Mayor that we already have plans and safeguards in
place to address the geothermal plant issues. Adding another layer of county oversight is not in
the best interest of tax payers. Furthermore, there have not been any conclusive studies done to
corroborate health issue claims by some Leilani Estate residents. I live just outside of the 1 mile
buffer zone and I have never experienced any health side effects from the geothermal plant.
Instead, I have more health side effects with VOG emissions.
I feel that some resident's claims of health issues are just a way for them to sell their property
that otherwise would not sell on today's sagging housing resale market. Besides, is the county
now going to become a real estate agent holding on to properties that it can not sell. Based on
the current numbers of residents taking advantage of the program, monies set aside to fund this
program will quickly become depleted. How will the county fund future residents wanting to
sell? What happens to my property value when homes are being bought for 130% of the
assessed value? I've worked hard to keep my property in pristine condition to safeguard my
investment. If there is an override on the veto of Bill 256, everything I've worked for will be for
nought.
The foregoing are just some of the issues that the majority of residents in the Leilani Estates
subdivision have concerns with. Again, I urge you to uphold the veto of Bill 256.
