Subject: bill 256 public testimony
Councillors,
I am asking you to join in a majority to override the mayor's disapproval of this bill. This
measure clearly realigns spending requirements for a portion of geothermal royalties to the
highest priorities relative to the presence of geothermal in a residential neighborhood; that is,
subsidizing relocation of affected families and enabling efforts to examine and improve the
public safety impacts of said facility. Don't let this money anymore be a slush fund for
councilors to undertake pet projects to attract votes. A professional, peer-reviewed health study
should be initiated. The evacuation and emergency response plan should be implemented. Get
these funds back on track as a first step towards tackling the larger question of whether the
power plant should even be there in the first place.
Sincerely,
Geoffrey Kern
