Subject: Regarding Bills 256 &257
I have lived in Leilani Estates for nearly 13 of my 18 years on this island. I
fortunately was able to buy my own home 5 years ago and with out hesitation choose
Leilani as my permanent residence. While I was aware there was a geothermal plant
not far away, there was not a substantial amount of information accessible informing
me of all the issues that involve living so close to the PGV. Recently I have heard the
voices of the people who have suffered ill health, who remember the blow out and
innumerable other toxic episodes, the way the Department of Health/ PGV/ & the
mayor have ignored these people and put profit first. It is appalling. If I had my way I
would keep this home for years to come, but with my new found knowledge I can not
say I safely can live so close to the PGV. I have applied to the relocation program - as
I am entitled to it - but fear that with this vetoed legislation that I wouldn't be able to
get a fair price for my home let alone have it happen in a timely or helpful way.
Worse still, even if I could get a fair price and move there are scores of people who
will suffer poor health supported by the mayors negligence. That Billy Kenoi vetoed
these bills - bills that support the health and well being of the community - clearly
says he's a self serving politician who's more interested in business than the people.
Therefore I support the overriding of the mayors veto on bills 256 & 257.
