Dear Council Members,
I am witting in regards to bill 261. I have traveled to the Big Island of Hawaii multple
times to hunt with my good friend Colin Onaka of Mauna Loa Otfitters. This was the number
one reason for visiting Hawaii. Not that I didnt enjoy the sun and surf as well but I could have
found cheaper places to do only that. The tickets to Hawaii,as well as accomodations are
higher than that of similar destinations. For me, as a hunter, Hawaii offers a unique
combination. I took my wife on a delayed honeymoon to Colins hunting camp and last year
took my daughter on a hunt as well. You have a priceless richness of wildlife on the Islands
and if properly managed could provide outdoor opportunities for both residents of the state as
well as for visiting hunters and wildlife viewing. When I was told that the state is considering
the destruction of these resources by allowing helicopter shooting I felt ill! Has the state
considered the loss of jobs and revenue that this wildlife brings! How will helicopters impact
nontargeted species of rare wildlife?Alaska has introduced plains bison and elk to the state
and is in the process of introducing wood bison now. These animals now provide revenue to
the state via hunters dollars for the purchase of licenses, tags, accomodation, and supports a
thriving guiding industry! Please dont allow the wanton destruction of your wildlife thru the
use of Helicopters. Managed properly you could provide permanent jobs and revenue for
your Great state. Best Regards....Tad Gilbert
