I am writing in support of Bill 292 amendment to Chapter 14, General Welfare, Hawai'i County
Code, relating to geothermal drilling.
As a nearby resident I can testify to the disturbance , stress and the general loss of well being
caused by the recent 24/7 drilling noise and vibration at Puna Geothermal Ventures. Imagine
living in a quiet and peaceful sanctuary and than one day it seems as if a shipping yard , loading
dock and airstrip have been dropped into your neighbor, and to make matters worse the airstrip
has its jets repeatedly revving up their engines at 1 or 2am every night. The noise is much
louder then the officials at PVG would like you to believe, their self interest are again being put
ahead of the residents rights to live peacefully in their own homes. It is way past the time to
stop marginalizing the people who live here, or anywhere that drilling may take place on the
islands in the future and establish standards of care and protection for them. I would like to
thank Dominic Yagong for introducing this bill and I hope that the council votes to put the
residents first.
