Subject: Restrict geothermal drilling
Dear Council Members,
Please vote to BAN NIGHT-TIME GEOTHERMAL DRILLING. I am in favor of the proposed article (that
would amend Chapter 14) to restrict geothermal drilling to operating hours 7a.m. To 7p.m.
I am a new resident at Kapoho Beach, very disturbed to learn more about the potential health hazards
of geothermal drilling, beginning with the noise level. The corporate developers behind this drilling are
not the first industry to be asked to observe rules that protect the communities they work in. It
doesn't matter that limiting drilling to daytime hours slows their progress...this isn't a viable
argument...every building in New York city takes longer to build because construction cannot take
place at night...railroads negotiate with communities to limit train whistles...state parks do not allow
all night parties with loud music. If this drilling industry can't respect and protect the communities it
works in, it should not be allowed to function at all.
