Dear Chairman Yagong and Hawaii County Council Members:
My name is John Radcliffe, I live in Honolulu, and I do not"have a dog in this fight," other than I want to
see Hawaii's public schools modernized just because they are now, by all accounts, just about the oldest
and most dilapidated in the nation. I urge that folks take a deep breath and not rush to judgment
regarding the Public Land Development Corporation. There has been a terrible hysteria organized to
prevent a new and important partnership between state and county agencies, state departments, and
businesses, non-profits and community groups throughout Hawaii nei. Please do not get sucked into that
hysteria and rush to any vote for Resolution 303-12. The Public Land Development Corporation
legislation will NOT do any of the scary things that it's opponents claim. It has a host of safeguards built
into it that are typical of the sort of safe, careful, planning for which Hawaii is well known. Your legislators
and your Governor have not gone crazy. The PLDC is intended to support your efforts to utilize County
lands efficiently and at the best value for your communities. The PLDC has not even had the opportunity
to create the well designed public comment process that has been established.
Please allow the process to play out and DEFER this Resolution. If, after the responsible parties have
had the opportunity to make the case for it, you don't like it, you will have ample time to take action.
