Subject: Support for Bond float for South Kona Police Station
Bill 307
As part of the Kona Community Development Plan, the public identified needed public
facilities. The South Kona Police Station was included as a much needed new facility
and is shown on the Official Public Facilities and Services Map- Public Safety, Figure 4-
10a and discussed in policy Pub-2.1 Law Enforcement.The South Kona Police Station
is specifically listed as an action item in Action Pub-2.1C and shown in the
Implementation Matrix of Chapter 5 for completion within a 2-3 timeframe. The site has
already been acquired and the facility design done.
The South Kona District is expansive geographically and population has nearly doubled

police station. Recent crime levels support increased police presence in the South Kona
District.
I respectfully request your support for the bond funding to construct the new South Kona
Police Station. I do think there are opportunities to value engineer the building, by
deleting the expense of the underground firing range that could make funds available for
other needed facilities throughout the County. I further request your support for the
efforts long underway for a public firing range at Puuanahulu, on State land, where both
Police and the public can use the facility, for a better return on the facility investment
dollars.
I thank you for your favorable consideration of Bill 307 to include Bond funding for a new
South Kona Police Station.
