Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 536,
reports as follows:
Communication No. 536 is from Momi Cazimero of Graphic House, dated November 11, 1999, on
behalf of the Lili`uokalani Trust and with regard to the existing Makalapua Shopping Center and
subdivision, requesting a sign variance to (1) add descriptive identifications "Shopping Center" to
the five existing signage monuments, (2) add anchor tenant identifications - "K Mart, Liberty House
and Hollywood Theaters" to three of the existing signage monuments; and (3) install major tenants
identification signs along Queen Ka`ahumanu Highway, Palani Road and Kamaka`eha Avenue on
a "temporary" basis.
Council Member J. Curtis Tyler expressed to Your Committee that he has been working closely with
Ms. Cazimero at Graphic House or a representative who was not present at the meeting. However,
Mr. Tyler has advised them not to utilize any sandwich board signs or banners as was done
previously. Mr. Tyler supports this request with reservations, and voted kanalua times two.
Your Committee recommends the variance requested by Graphic House on behalf of the
Lili`uokalani Trust be approved.
