Re: Bill 331 —Reducing Speed Limit on Pi`ihonua Road
Attached please find a letter I received from three families who live on Pi`ihonua Road, in
support of the community's request to lower the speed limit on Waianuenue Avenue/Piihonua
Road to a uniform 25 miles per hour.
I request that this letter be referred to the appropriate agenda for this matter.

RE: REQUEST FOR SPEED HUMPS IN OUR COMMUNITY
We, the families on Piihonua Road between Camp 3 and 4, recognize the need to
slow cars down on this "stretch" of road. This stretch of road seems to attract the
notion to speed your way toZower. bridge or upper camp. We see and hear the cars,
such as the "low rider"type vehicles, 4x4 trucks on the way to the hunting grounds
and 4-wheeler ATV type vehicles moving rather fast on this stretch of road.
This stretch of road is used as a walking path for some of*our community members,
there are i 'sidewalks, so the tendency is to walk at the edge of the roadway. We
are a rural area in Hilo,we like tiiiiquiet environment, but more important we want a
safe area for Four families to enjoy the outdoors without worry of someone
speeding past us.
We are in favor of"speed humps" on Piihonua Road fronting our homes.
