Re: Fund Balance Notification for June 30, 2012
As promised in my correspondence submitted October 15, 2012,we are transmitting the
June 30, 2012, fund balance information pursuant to Hawaii County Code Section 2-12.4.
The required fund balance information is as follows:
Fund Balance $14,773,951.86
Fund Balance Designated for Future Year 18,003,150.00
Total Budgetary Fund Balance, June 30, 2012 $32.777.101.86
The fund balance was generated in part due to revenues that were higher than expected,
including real property tax and public service company tax receipts. In addition,
expenditures were lower than expected in some cases due to the extensive sacrifices
made by the departments throughout the fiscal year. Another component of the fund
balance is the unappropriated fund balance from the prior fiscal year.
This fund balance will be instrumental in meeting next year's budgetary needs. Balancing
the fiscal year 2013-14 budget will continue to be challenging given the current economic
climate.
