To whom it may concern,
My name is as a senior at Waiakea High School I
strongly oppose decriminalizing marijuana. Decriminalizing marijuana opens
the doors to legalizing all the other illegal drugs and substances.
Marijuana is a drug that not only inhibits one's ability to act responsibly
and compromises one's ability to make decision, but is also detrimental to
one's health. Thus making the idiot who smokes or intakes marijuana a
danger to him/herself, but more importantly putting at risk all the
innocent people whom may come in contact with the individual.
Decriminalizing marijuana basically lessens the severity of the drug,
telling the public that marijuana is not a serious issue; that smoking and
getting high is not a concern in Hawaii . Those who have interest in
marijuana will feel that since the County of Hawaii does not feel that
marijuana is a serious issue, that it is acceptable for them to obtain and
use marijuana. Having a younger brother in school, it worries me that there
may be a possibility that the students in his classes may be under the
influence of marijuana. Also, we already have a problem with drunk driving,
if marijuana is decriminalized would that not just make the problem worse?
Though marijuana may have some proven medical benefits, I believe
that there are other ways to achieve the same desired medical outcome
without settling for using illegal drugs. In some ways it almost seems like
an excuse to use,mari juana.
