Re: Operating Budget
The State Department of Transportation Public Affairs - Safe Community Program is providing
$2,991 of additional funding to the Hawai`i County Police Department's (HCPD's) Speed
Enforcement Grant program. The grant funds will be used to allow the HCPD to purchase two
additional Stealth Speed Data Collector units.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the
additional funds into the Speed Enforcement Grant program account and bringing the total grant
appropriation to $101,041.

To appropriate an additional $2,991 for the Speed Enforcement Grant under account number
010.201.5219.44 and revenue account 3302.03
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The State Department of Transportation Public Affairs-Safe Community Program is providing funds to be
used to purchase two additional Stealth Speed Data Collector units, which will cover a larger area of the Big
Island and allow Hawaii County Police Department to transport the units over a shorter distance to monitor
speeding in more locations. One unit will be used in Area I and the other will be used in Area II.
Current Appropriation: $98,050.00
Total Grant Funds: $101,041.00
Request for additional funds: $2,991.00
