Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 544,
and attached Bill No. 171, reports as follows:
The purpose of Bill No. 1741 is to amend Chapter 15, Parks and Recreation, of the Hawaii
County Code 1983 (1995 Edition) by establishing a schedule of official names of County of
Hawaii Parks and Recreational facilities.
Communication No. 544 is from Council Members Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd and Al Smith,
dated November 3, 1999, transmitting Bill No. 171, which will consolidate, for easy reference,
the official names of Parks and Recreational facilities within Chapter 15 of the Hawaii County
Code, and attaches comments from Language Professor Dr. Pila Wilson, for the Council's
review and consideration.
Your Committee expressed concerns over the need to change some signs now that the names
have been clarified. A letter will be sent to Department of Parks & Recreation to inquire how
this matter will be addressed.
Your Committee also made corrections to several park facility names.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 171, as amended to Draft 2,
and recommends that it pass first reading.
