Re: Operating Budget —
The State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General is providing $26,048 to the Hawaii
County Police Department to be used towards improving and enhancing the quality of its forensic
science services. The funds will be used to train laboratory personnel and to purchase equipment
to assist in gathering and processing forensic evidence.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawai`i
Department of the Attorney General for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance
amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $26,048 grant to improve forensic science
services.

A. REQUEST:
To create an account entitled "Improve Forensic Services"for$26,048.00 under following object codes
115 for$19,398.00 and 480 for$6,650.00.
To enter into a contract with the State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice
Assistance Division under the Improve Forensic Services Grant.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division is providing
a grant to improve and enhance the quality of its forensic science services. This grant includes training for
laboratory personnel, equipment such as a trailer, camera and portable generator to assist in gathering and
processing forensic evidence and supplies.
