Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have nominated the following individuals to the Kailua
Village Design Commission:
• Alvin A. Akina Jr. (4-year term): Mr. Akina is a retired resident of Hawai'i. He worked in the
travel industry for more than 20 years, was a volunteer fireman, a community activist for
disabled and elderly citizens, and is an honorable discharged member of the Hawai'i
National Guard. Mr. Akina states that he is a Democrat. If confirmed he will serve a term to
end on December 31, 2016.
• Paul Bleck (2-year term): Mr. Bleck is a 24-year resident of Hawai'i and a former member of
this commission. He is a self-employed architect living within the Kailua Village Special
District with construction management experience. Mr. Bleck states that he is not affiliated
with any political party. If confirmed he will serve a term to end on December 31, 2014.
