Re: Operating Budget
The United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development is providing $35,200 to the
Hawai`i Fire Department to be used by its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Bureau to purchase
computer equipment to replace current, obsolete units.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the U.S.
Department of Agriculture for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the
Operating Budget by appropriating this $35,200 grant award.

A. REQUEST:
Prepare a resolution authorizing the Mayor to accept a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural
Development.
Prepare a complimentary ordinance as follows:

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development has approved the federal funded grant for the
purchase of desktop and laptop computer equipment for a total of$35,200. The grant funds will allow the
Hawai'i Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Bureau to update current desktop and laptop
computers. EMS personnel depend a great deal on electronic documentation on each of the 18,000 plus
medical and fire alarms each year. Many of the existing computers were purchased in 2006 and are now
obsolete. The extended performance period ends March 27, 2013

USDA Rural Development reserves the right to discontinue the processing of the application.
