Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $35,200 grant award. The grant funds will allow the Hawai'i Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Bureau to update current desktop and laptop computers. EMS personnel depend a great deal on electronic documentation on each of the 18,000 plus medical and fire alarms each year. Many of the existing computers were purchased in 2006 and are now obsolete.
