Re: Resolution for multi-year lease
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the payment of funds for more than one fiscal year for a new
multi-year lease agreement for two (2) fire apparatus for the Hawai`i Fire Department. These
apparatus are to replace two fire trucks, Engine 15 at North Kohala Fire Station, and Engine 9 at
the Waimea Fire Station, which are over twenty years old, thereby suffering from increased
maintenance costs, down time and unreliability. The anticipated lease cost, in total, for both
trucks is $23,500 per month, or $282,000 per year for a total cost over five years of$1,410,000.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Robert Belcher of the Hawai`i Fire
Department at 932-2921.

A. REQUEST:
Please prepare a resolution authorizing the payment of funds - in a later fiscal year and for more than one
fiscal year-for a multi-year lease of two (2) fire apparatus (also called fire trucks) for the Fire Department.
The lease would specifically be for a five (5) year lease term for critically needed units to replace older fire

The apparatus are tentatively set to replace Engine 15 at North Kohala and Engine 9 at Waimea Fire Station.
This is to replace two front-line fire protection apparatus that are over twenty years old and resulting in
increasing repair and maintenance costs, as well as prolonged down times and unreliability. Anticipated
costs are $1,410,000 with interest over a five year lease term. Estimate lease cost is $23,500 per month or
$282,000 annually for both.
