These apparatus are to replace two fire trucks, Engine 15 at North Kohala Fire Station, and Engine 9 at the Waimea Fire Station, which are over twenty years old, thereby suffering from increased maintenance costs, down time and unreliability. The anticipated lease cost, in total, for both trucks is $23,500 per month, or $282,000 per year for a total cost over five years of$1,410,000. REQUEST: Please prepare a resolution authorizing the payment of funds - in a later fiscal year and for more than one fiscal year-for a multi-year lease of two (2) fire apparatus (also called fire trucks) for the Fire Department. The lease would specifically be for a five (5) year lease term for critically needed units to replace older fire apparatus. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The apparatus are tentatively set to replace Engine 15 at North Kohala and Engine 9 at Waimea Fire Station. This is to replace two front-line fire protection apparatus that are over twenty years old and resulting in increasing repair and maintenance costs, as well as prolonged down times and unreliability.
