Subject: Bill 292 -testimony
Hawaii County Council Members;
With regard to the noise from geothermal drilling activities;
Having reviewed Bill 292, and being a resident of lower Puna, in consideration of those
residents that live near the current drilling activities, and for those unfortunate people
who will be impacted by this inappropriate industrial operation elsewhere in Puna in the
future due to the unfortunate potential of drilling in residential areas, the very least
you can do is to require that they restrict the operation, by ordinance, to daytime hours.
Whatever happened to zoning anyway? Allowing this hazardous industry where people live is
absolutely ridiculous! Setbacks in other regions of geothermal development in the USA are
always in place; many miles away from homes. They buy out residents to avoid these kind of
problems, and their resources are much less tainted by hazardous chemical emmisions.
Is our government in Hawaii so motivated by money that they can't protect the people that
vote for them?
This bill will cost the developers increased expense by not running 24/7 but it is the
humane and reasonable action to take to protect the lives of Puna residents.
Sincerely,
Leimana Pelton
