Subject: Bill 292 testimony
Aloha Councilmembers-
I support Bill 292 which would restrict geothermal exploratory and production drilling to the
hours of operation between lam and 7 pm.
I know all too well how far sound travels out here in the country. We live five miles from the
ocean, but when the surf is really big, I can hear it booming from my house, and that is a
pleasant sound, one which I enjoy.
I can imagine the horror of having to listen to the sound of drilling rigs smashing into rocks all
day and night, that would be unbearable. Indeed, one does not see any of the the drill rig owners
hurrying to buy property adjacent to the plant, as they know how obnoxious the sound is.
Puna Geothermal Ventures is one of the most poorly sited of all geothermal projects anywhere
in the world. It never should have been placed there, and constitutes a continual hazard to the
community. I understand that they are now starting a "hydrogen research project" which is
another example of an industrial project that has no business being located in the middle of a
residential area, and is an accident waiting to happen.
Puna residents are already besieged by the noise of frequent helicopter tour overflights from
which we get no relief. Adding another stressful noise that rumbles and roars constantly is not
conducive to our health, well-being, rest or productivity.
I urge the Councilmembers to support Bill 292, which will put the well-being of the good people
of Puna ahead of the bottom line of an already prosperous globalist corporation. The residents of
Puna are relying on your aloha and goodwill to protect us. Thank you for your time and
attention to this pressing matter.
