SUBJECT: Land Acquisition - County Parks
The following is an up-to-date status report on all of our department's
acquisition projects :
1. James Kealoha Beach Park Expansion (Carlsmith Property)
Appraisal being conducted and scheduled to be completed by May 15.
Application for Federal grant through BOR was approved in April.
Acquisition negotiation to commence as soon as appraisal is completed.
2. Leleiwi Beach Park Expansion (Richardson Property)
Appraisal being conducted and scheduled to be completed by May 31.
Application for Federal grant through BOR submitted in March.
3. Wainaku Gym
All preliminary work completed. Request for transfer of property to the
County has been submitted to Mauna Kea Sugar Company.
4. Papaikou Playground
Public Works Department is presently negotiating purchase with Mauna
Kea Sugar Company.
5, Paauilo Gym and Park 1 .. 0
Subdivision plans have been submitted to Planning Department for approval.
6. Honokaa Playground
Metes and bounds survey will be completed by May 31 and the appraisal
MEMeEA should be EW completed by July 1. Negotiations will follow completion of

appraisal.
7. Waimea Park Expansion
Appraisal being conducted and scheduled to be completed by June 1.
8. Puuki Roadside Park (South Kohala)
Request for appraisal submitted to Department of Public Works.
9. Kamehameha Park Expansion
Master plan completed and request for a survey of the taking area has
been submitted to Public Works. Also negotiating with Kohala Sugar
Company for the acquisition.
10. Pololu Lookout Expansion
Request for a metes and bounds survey submitted to Public Works.
11. Mahukona Beach Park Expansion
Amount of additional land required was determined through consultant's
report. Presently negotiating with Kohala Sugar Company.
12. Kona White Sands Beach
Appraisal being conducted and scheduled to be completed by May 15.
13. Keei Golf Course and Palemano Point Beach Park
All surveys for golf course site are completed. Letter of understanding
on the final taking by the County received from Bishop Estate, and actual
construction of the course can be undertaken soon.
14. Kua Bay Beach Park (North Kona)
Appraisal being conducted and due to be completed by May 31. Legal
description of property completed.
15. Kaimu Beach Park Expansion (Three Phases)
10 of 12 parcels involved in first phase have been purchased. The
remaining two are scheduled for court action following appeals.

In the second phase, the County has taken possession through eminent
domain proceedings. The court's decision is also being appealed.
Legal description of the taking area involved in the third phase was
completed by the Department of Public Works. The appraisal of the site
is scheduled to be completed by May 15. An application for a Federal
grant to help fund this purchase was submitted to HUD in February.
