The following are the recommendations of the Recreation Committee
which were considered at its meeting of January 21, 1974:
COMMUNICATIONS
No . 5$6 : DEVELOPMENT PLAN - HONOKAA PARK
From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated November 23, 1973 , submitting for review and
consideration the DEVELOPMENT PLAN - HONOKAA PARK
prepared for their department by LMLI Architects/
Planners, Inc . This is a follow-up of A Plan for
the Hamakua District prepared for the County and the
Hamakua District Development Council, Inc . , in
June, 1970 :
Approve the DEVELOPMENT PLAN -
HONOKAA PARK .
'No . 594.1 : SOUTH KOHALA RECREATIONAL COMPLEX
From Mayor Shunichi Kimura dated January 11, 1974,
transmitting for information a copy of a letter to
Governor John A . Burns regarding the South Kohala
Recreational Complex:

No . 612 : RENOVATION OF WAINAKU GYM (APPROPRIATION C-73116 -
ORDINANCE 475)
From Robert T . Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated December 18, 1973 , recommending that the project
description for "renovation and repair of gym facility"
be amended to read "development of a new gymnasium and
support facilities to replace the existing dilapidated
facility" :
Accept recommendation that the
project description be amended .

No . 613 : FORMER RICHARDSON PROPERTY (CM-23 )
From •obert T . Fukuda, Parks &Recreation Director,
dated December 18, 1973 , submitting comments on the
concerns regarding the present use of the former
Richardson property which was recently purchased by
the County for recreational purposes :
Approve of the arrangement between
the County of Hawaii and the
University of Hawaii on the use of
the former Richardson property; and
recommend that an agreement be drawn
up to include the conditions as
stated in the communication.
'No . 635 : HONOKOHAU BOAT HARBOR
From Melvin E. Lepine, Chief, Harbors Division, State
Dept . of Transportation, dated December 27, 1973,
commenting on the various courses of action available
to them to encumber the approximately $55,000 that is
scheduled to lapse in December, 1974, for the Honokohau
Boat Harbor expansion project :

From Robert T. Fukuda, Parks & Recreation Director,
dated January $, 1974, informing that the six stall
gates, delivered to dockside in San Francisco, is
quoted at this time at $17,000, plus an additional freight
charge of $3 , 200 from San Francisco to Hilo :
Approve purchase and refer to the
Finance Committee for funding.

PETITION
r.No . 6 : REQUEST FOR NEIGHBORHOOD PARK - MOHOULI HOUSING
From Residents of Mohouli Housing requesting the State
and County governments to appropriate the necessary
funds for the development of a neighborhood playground
for their children:

petitioners that the County of Hawaii
will be requesting funds from the
State for the project .
