Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 643, and
attached Resolution No. 208-00 reports as follows:
The purpose of Resolution No. 208-00 is to authorize the acquisition of private property for a public
right-of--way, being a portion of Tax Map Keys (3) 3-5-003-27 and (3) 3-5-004-008, situate at
Papa`aloa, North Hilo, Hawaii.
Communication No. 643 is from Corporation Counsel Richazd D. Wurdeman, dated
January 28, 2000, transmitting Resolution No. 208-00, for the Council's review and consideration.
Mr. Gerald Takase stated that it has been deemed necessary for the County to exercise its right of
eminent domain in acquiring the subject roadway for the purpose of insuring a continuing public
access to the residents of surrounding areas.
Chairman Yagong presented a short video presentation of the current deteriorated condition of the
County road that was used by the community.
Council Member J. Curtis Tyler suggested that the resolution be amended to add proper diacritical
mazks to the spelling of Hawaiian words.
Your Committee is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 208-00, as amended to
Draft 2, and recommends that it pass first reading.
