SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT:
SECTION 24-257 - 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT REVISION — MAMALAHOA
HIGHWAY
We request the Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10 (Schedules), Division 1 (Speed
Limits) Section 24-257, Schedule 5 (35 mile per hour limit), subsection (e) Kohala be amended
by revising existing item:
(1) Mamalahoa Highway [HIGHWAY 190), lea from A POINT FIVE HUNDRED
THREE FEET NORTH OF LALAMILO FARM ROAD TO Lindsey Road to a point four
The intent of this amendment is to lower the speed limit along Mamalahoa Highway
south of the Ala Ohia Road (Waimea bypass) intersection. With the subject speed limit
change, the design criteria specifically for the left-turn pocket into the Ala Ohia Road
intersection will be met within the existing right-of-way.
A location map is attached for your reference.
