Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 37, reports as follows:
Communication No. 37, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated December 17, 2012, nominates
Mr. Alvin A. Akina, Jr. to the Kailua Village Design Commission. Mr. Akina is a retired
resident of Hawai`i. He worked in the travel industry for more than 20 years, was a volunteer
fireman, a community activist for disabled and elderly citizens, and is an honorable discharged
member of the Hawai`i National Guard. Mr. Akina states that he is a Democrat. If confirmed he
will serve a term to end on December 31, 2016.
Mr. Akina is not required to appear before the Council for final confirmation.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 37
and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Alvin A. Akina, Jr. to the Kailua
Village Design Commission.
