Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was referred Communication
No. 74,reports as follows:
Communication No. 74,transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated December 21, 2012,
nominates Mr. Donn S. Mende to the Hawaii County Liquor Commission.
Mr. Mende is a lifelong resident of Hawai`i, and is presently the Assistant Vice-President of the
Hawaii National Bank. Mr. Mende for the past 20-years of his career worked with American
Savings Bank, Central Pacific Bank and the Bank of Hawai`i. He is the treasurer of the Boys
and Girls Club, and is also a board member of both the Hawai`i Island United Way and Junior
Achievement.
Mr. Mende states that he is not affiliated with any political party, and if confirmed,will serve a
term to expire on December 31, 2016.
Pursuant to Section 7-4.5, Hawai`i County Charter,there shall be a liquor commission,
consisting of nine members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the County Council.
Committee Chair Ford specified that Mr. Mende does not need to appear before the full Council
for confirmation.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication No. 74, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Donn S.
Mende to the County of Hawai`i Liquor Commission.
