Hawai`i County Council • 25 Aupuni Street Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 • , Dear Chairman Yoshimoto and Members of the County Council: Subject: BEAUTIFICATION FUND, FUND BALANCE Pursuant to Section 10-8 of the Hawai`i County Charter relating to supplemental appropriations, I am taking this means to certify that there is a balance of$1,193,394.28 in the Beautification Fund fund balance as of June 30, 2012. We are proposing the appropriation of$97,000 of the fund balance to the Roadside Beautification—OCE account for use by the Department of Public Works and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by increasing the Beautification Fund's Fund Balance from Previous Year revenue account by $97,000 and then appropriating it to the following accounts: Roadside Beautification—OCE, for use by the Department of Public Works, Parks Roadside Beautification—OCE, for use by the Department of Parks and Recreation. The remaining balance of$1,096,394.28 in the Beautification Fund fund balance will be kept in reserve for future appropriation needs. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The Department of Parks and Recreation requests funding for the following expenditures: 1. Iron Works Kam Ave parking lot to Pauahi St. 100 trees @ $40 $ 4,000 2. Pauahi St to commuter parking lot 175 trees @ $40 $ 7,000 3. Mooheau Parking lot to Waianuenue Ave 100 trees @ $40 $ 4,000 4. Ahalanui Park (Puna) 250 trees @ $40 $10,000 During this fiscal year parks maint tree trimmers have encountered several emergency projects due to fallen trees form high winds.
