RESOLUTION NO. 72 13
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A MONETARY
DONATION OF $20 TO THE COUNTY OF HAWAII TO HELP OFFSET
THE COST OF SENDING FLOWERS TO THE FIRST SELECTMAN OF
NEWTOWN IN MEMORY OF THE VICTIMS AT SANDY HOOK
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
WHEREAS, Alvin Akina is donating $20 to the County of Hawai'i; and
WHEREAS, these funds will be used to help offset the cost of sending flowers to the
First Selectman of Newtown in memory of the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School;
and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai'i County Charter provides that
the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or
other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate, and Chapter 2, Article
30, Section 2-162 (a) of the Hawai'i County Code states that any gifts or donations of money,
securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the
Department of Finance, may be accepted by Resolution approved by the Council; and
WHEREAS, the Hawai'i County Department of Finance has requested that cash
donations of any amount be recorded and accepted through the formal Resolution process;
and
WHEREAS, the Department of Finance recommends the acceptance of this donation;
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in
accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai'i County Charter, and Chapter 2,
Article 30, Section 2-162(a) of the Hawai'i County Code, the Council of the County of Hawai'i
accepts this donation.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this
Resolution be sent to Alvin Akina, P.O. Box 388, Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i 96745, acknowledging
this generous donation.
