RESOLUTION NO. 76 13 A RESOLUTION URGING THE HAWAII STATE LEGISLATURE TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR SITE SELECTION AND PLANNING OF THE WEST HAWAII VETERANS CENTER. WHEREAS, there are more than 16,000 Veterans on the island of Hawai`i, a significant number of whom reside in West Hawai`i, who have expressed an overwhelming desire and support for a veterans center; and WHEREAS, there is a need to provide adequate facilities for veteran groups in West Hawai`i, such as the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Korean War Veterans Association, Vietnam Era Veterans Association, Camp Tarawa Detachment#1255 of the Marine Corps League, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, Big Island Retired Military Association, 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans, 442"d Veterans Association, Interpreters Club, Hawai`i Island Women Veterans Association, Hawai`i Island Veterans Memorial, Inc., and Military Order of the Purple Heart; and WHEREAS, a veterans center will serve the social needs of veterans, veteran organizations, and veteran associations, by providing a central facility to hold large gatherings, funeral services, and military related celebrations; and WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163 requested that State of Hawai`i Governor Neil Abercrombie set aside and transfer sixty acres of land to support the establishment of a West Hawai`i Multi-Purpose and Intergenerational Veterans Center; and WHEREAS, House Resolution No. 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163 were adopted on March 15, 2011; and WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawai`i concurred with the intent and purpose of House Resolution 142 and House Concurrent Resolution No. 163 and adopted Resolution No. 59-11 in support of the Governor setting aside lands for the establishment of a West Hawai`i Multi-Purpose and Intergenerational Veterans Center on May 4, 2011; and WHEREAS, House Bill No. 1468, Relating To Capital Improvement Projects For The Benefit Of The Seventh Representative District, provides for an appropriation for fiscal year 2013-2014 in the amount of$300,000 for the site selection and planning of the West Hawai`i Veterans Center; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the Hawai`i State Legislature is urged to appropriate funds for the site selection and planning of the West Hawai`i Multi-Purpose and Intergenerational Veterans Center. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor of the State of Hawai`i is urged to release funds for the site selection and planning of the West Hawai`i Multi-Purpose and Intergenerational Veterans Center. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Governor Neil Abercrombie; the Honorable Senator David Y. Ige, Chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means; the Honorable Senator Michelle N. Kidani, Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means; the Honorable Representative Sylvia Luke, Chair of the House Committee on Finance; the Honorable Representative Scott Y. Nishimoto, Vice Chair of House Committee on Finance; the Honorable Senator Josh Green; the Honorable Senator Malama Solomon; the Honorable Representative Cindy Evans; the Honorable Representative Nicole Lowen; the Honorable Representative Denny Coffman; and the Honorable Mayor William P.
