REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: March 12, 2013 Re: Comm.No. 149 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 11:05 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 149, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 149, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated February 15, 2013, transmits the <br /> nomination of Mr. Gregory G. Ogin to the Kona Community Development Plan Action <br /> Committee. <br /> Mr. Ogin lives in Kailua-Kona and has resided on Hawai`i Island for over 30 years. He has been <br /> active in the business community and is the president of Clark Realty Group, which is a Real <br /> Estate and Land Management Company. Mr. Ogin has been active in community organizations <br /> such as: the Kona Kohala Chamber, Rotary Club of Kona, Hawai`i Island YMCA, and the <br /> Kailua Village Design District Commission. <br /> Some Council members expressed concerns with the process by which the names of nominees <br /> are selected by the Mayor. They also voiced concern that the committee does not seem to be <br /> balanced and has too many development oriented members. <br /> Planning Director Leithead Todd explained how the Planning Department reviews the applicants <br /> and interviews nominees based on the criteria stated in the Community Development Plan. <br /> Mr. Ogin was informed that he does not need to appear before the full Council for final <br /> confirmation. <br /> PC Rept.
