Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 149,reports as
follows:
Communication No. 149, from Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated February 15,2013,transmits the
nomination of Mr. Aaron N.Nagata to the Kona Community Development Plan Action
Committee.
Mr.Nagata is a lifelong Kona resident who graduated of Konawaena High School and Oregon's
Willamette University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr.Nagata has been
employed by the State of Hawai`i's Department of Human Services as a social worker since 1987.
He was the head football coach at Konawaena High School from 2006 to 2011, a past Parent
Teacher's Association President, and a past executive board member for the Alzheimer's
Association Kona Chapter.
Mr.Nagata is presently an Interdisciplinary team member for the Big Island's elderly population
and participated in the planning of the community's regional park at the old Kona airport. He has
been active with various youth organizations such as: the Big Island Pop Warner Association,
American Youth Soccer Organization(AYSO), and the Kona Pony Baseball.
Mr.Nagata expressed great interest in the Community Development Plan process stated that it
would be a humbling, yet rewarding opportunity to make Kona the best community possible. He
added the he is willing to serve in this capacity and pledged 120 percent to the process.
Mr.Nagata was informed that he does not need to appear before the full Council for final
confirmation.

Your Committee on Planning is in accordance with the purpose and intent of Communication
No. 149, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Aaron N. Nagata to the Kona
Community Development Plan Action Committee.
