Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit, to which was referred Communication
No. 170, reports as follows:
Communication No. 170, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated February 5, 2013,
nominates Mr. Oliver"Sonny" Shimaoka of Council District 9 to the County of Hawai`i
Transportation Commission.
Mr. Shimaoka, a lifelong resident of Hawai`i, the Senior Pastor of New Hope Waimea. He is a
board member of Kaheleaulani Health Clinic, a past board member of the Neighborhood Place of
Kona, and Hospice of Kona. Mr. Shimaoka states he is not affiliated with any political party. If
confirmed, Mr. Shimaoka will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2016.
Committee Chair Ford specified to Administrative Executive Assistant Ms. Charmaine "Char"
Shigemura that Mr. Shimaoka needs to appear before the full Council for confirmation.
Your Committee on Public Safety and Mass Transit is in accord with the purpose and intent of
Communication No. 170, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Oliver
"Sonny" Shimaoka to the County of Hawai`i Transportation Commission.
