Re: Resolution for multi-year lease
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Hawai`i Fire Department to enter into a multi-year lease
for two (2) years, for premises located at 95-1163 Ka'alaiki Road in Na`alehu, Hawai`i. The Fire
Department's current lease for this property expires on April 30, 2013. This site is needed in
order to comply with the State of Hawai`i's contract to provide EMS services, and that the rent
is reimbursable by the State of Hawai`i as part of this contract.
The Fire Department requests that this resolution be waived from the Finance Committee and be
placed on the April 17, 2013 Council Agenda due to the impending expiration of their current
lease.

A. REQUEST:
Please prepare a resolution authorizing the payment of funds - in a later fiscal year and for more than
one fiscal year- for a two year lease extension for the Naalehu EMS Station for the Fire Department.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
To comply with the State of Hawaii contract to provide EMS services an extention of the Naalehu EMS
Station lease is necessary. This is for premises located at 95-1163 Ka'alaiki Road, Naalehu. The term is for
two years commencing May 1, 2013, with an option to renew the lease for an additional two years. The lease
rent is $1,402.73 per month. This is reimburseable by the State of Hawai'i as part of the EMS contract.
The current lease expires at the end of April. In order to expedite this new lease, please waive the
Finance Committee and place on the April 17 Council Agenda.

RE: Resolution No. 96-13 : A Resolution Authorizing the Payment of Funds of a Later
Fiscal Year and of More Than One Fiscal Year for a Multi-Year Lease of Real Property.
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawai`i, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Finance to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter be placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request
is denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Finance for placement on its future agenda.
