Subject: Real Property Tax Stakeholders Task Force Members from the Public
The following are background summaries for the three Real Property Tax Stakeholders Task
Force members from the public:
Jeanne Sunderland has lived in North Kohala since 1974. She has served on the Board of
Directors for a number of non-profit organizations. She has served as the Business Administrator
for Robert Watkins Emergency Group LLC, Hawaii Island Retreat LLC, Ahu Pohaku
I-lo'omaluhia LLC, and Daemion Watkins Construction, and as well as the treasurer for non-
profits including Five Mountain Hawai`i and Na Kupuna 0 Kohala. She is a landowner and
small business owner. She and her husband built and own Hawai`i Island Retreat in North
Kohala. They own land in all of the following tax categories: agriculture. commercial
and residential. She is interested in serving on the task force because she believes that Real
Property Taxes are an important source of county revenue and it is important that they are
structured to be fair and equitable.
Bob Price was a licensed realtor in the State of Indiana from 1976-1994 and was elected to the
County Council in the State of Indiana from 1988-1994. He also was an elected Assessor in the
State of Indiana from 1994-2002. After moving to Hawaii, he worked as a Hawai`i County
assessor from 2005-2010, after which he retired. In 2012 he was appointed by the County
Council to the Real Property Tax Ad-Hoc Committee which undertook a preliminary assessment
of the recommendations from the 2012 report of the International Association of Assessing
Officers. Bob would like to continue working to improve the County's real property tax
program. L

Stewart Hussey is a Hawai`i Certified General Appraiser and President of the Lawrence
Appraisal Group Hawai`i, Inc. (dba Hussey Appraisal Group Hawai`i). He has been appraising
on the Island of Hawaii since 1991. Mr. Hussey's appraisal practice includes extensive
arbitration and expert witness testimony_ the appraisal of fee simple, leased fee and leasehold
real property interests (including easements, takings and partial interest valuations) and all
property types (agricultural, conservation, commercial, industrial and residential properties) and
the valuation of businesses as going concerns. His community activities include service as
president of: the Rotary Club of Hilo, the Hilo Downtown Improvement Association, Friends of
the Children's Justice Center of East Hawaii, Friends of the Palace Theater, and board
membership in several other community associations.
