Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred
Communication No. 252, reports as follows:
Communication No. 252, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated April 4, 2013,
nominates Wayne T. Nishijima to the Hawai`i County Veterans Advisory Committee.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor Charmaine Shigemura introduced Mr. Nishijima who is a
lifelong resident of Hawai`i. He is the present secretary of the Big Island National Guard
Retirees Association. If confirmed, Mr. Nishijima will serve a term to expire on December 31,
2015, replacing Mr. Edward Lee, whose term expired on December 31, 2010.
Mr. Nishijima addressed the committee and pledged to do his best to help the veterans in
Hawai`i County.
Committee Member Ilagan thanked Mr. Nishijima for his service and stated that the Veterans
Advisory Committee is important to him because of his ties to the military.
Committee Chair Kanuha informed Mr. Nishijima that his presence is not necessarily required
when his nomination comes before the council.
Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Communication 252, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Wayne
T. Nishijima to the Hawai`i County Veterans Advisory Committee.
