RESOLUTION NO. 390
WHEREAS, some $132, 000 was expended in 1961 by the County
of Hawaii to provide free bus transportation to school children;
and i
WHEREAS, some $100, 000 was expended in 1961 for acquisition
of new school busses; and
WHEREAS, the projected future cost to adequately provide
bus transportation for school children will be a heavy burden
on the finances of this County; and
WHEREAS, school bus transportation is a necessary
adjunct to compulsory public education which is primarily
of State concern,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
in and for the County of Hawaii meeting on this date that the
State Legislature be respectfully requested to consider and
enact appropriate legislation whereby the State assumes the
entire cost of bus transportation for school children.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is
hereby directed to forward a copy each of this resolution to
the President of the Senate , Speaker of the House of Represent-
atives and to all the members of the Legislature from the
County of Hawaii.
