RESOLUTION NO. 393
WHEREAS, on April 2, 1961 , a torrential rain storm
caused extensive damages to county roads , bridges , culverts
and storm drains in the districts of North Hilo and Hamakua ,
County of Hawaii ; and
WHEREAS, the estimated cost of repairing and reconstruct-
ing the damaged roads , bridges , culverts and storm drains
amounts to $91 ,700 .00, which is broken down into individual
items as follows :
NORTH HI LO DISTRICT
1 . Kawaikahi Gulch, retaining wall $ 5 ,000 .00
2 . Waipunalei , road and culvert 14, 500 .00
3. Laupahoehoe Gulch road 1 .000 .00

HANAKUA DISTRICT

WHEREAS, successive natural disasters ( 1960 volcanic
eruption and 1)60 tidal wave) during the past two years
have adversely affected the countyts financial ability to
undertake the project of repairing and reconstructing the
damaged properties ;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISGS
in and for the County of Hawaii that the Legislature of the
State of Hawaii be and is hereby respectfully requested to
appropriate the sum of $91 ,700 .00 for the repair and
reconstruction of damaged roads , bridges , culverts and
storm drains caused by the rain storm on April 2 , 1961 .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and is
hereby directed to send copies of this resole ion to the
Honorable William H. Hill , President of the Senate , the
Honorable Elmer F . Cravalho, Speaker of the House , and to
all the members of the Legislature from the County of Hawaii .
