Comm. 271: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 14 OF THE HAWAI‘I COUNTY CODE
(Bill 79) 1983 (2005 EDITION, AS AMENDED), BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE RELATING
TO PROHIBITION OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS
From Council Member Margaret Wille, dated April 25, 2013. The bill adds a new article
to Chapter 14, General Welfare titled “Genetically Modified (Transgenic) Organisms
Prohibited,” to prohibit the propagation, cultivation, raising, growing, sale or distribution
of transgenic organisms (GMO’s).
Postponed Bill 79, and the motion to amend with the contents of Comm. 271.146, to a
Special Meeting to be held in the Council Chambers, Kona (WHCC) on July 2, 2013:
Ayes: Committee Members Eoff, Ilagan, Kanuha, Kern,
Poindexter, Wille, Yoshimoto and Chair Ford – 8.
Noes: None.
Absent: Committee Member Onishi – 1.
