Subject: Resolution #112-13
Aloha Council Members,
I would like to urge you to support Resolution #112-13 introduced by Councilman Dru Kanuha to rename
the Old Walua Road Trail to honor Toni Fortin-Blair who worked for years through PATH to
make sure the trail happened. She not only lobbied for the trail, but she helped in the physical construction
of the trail with many hours of weed pulling, rock throwing and dirt shoveling in order to help make
it happen.
Toni helped to start PATH and helped through thick and thin to keep it going over the years to help
promote safe places for people to recreate. The Walua Road Trail is a testament to her perserverence
and determination to make this trail a reality. Toni lost her battle with cancer a year ago and fought right to
the end not only in her personal battle, but also in support of PATH and its mission. Naming this
trail after Toni would not only be a memorial to her, but also an example of what joint efforts of the private
and public sector can accomplish.
Mahalo for your consideration,
Gerry
