Subj: Aloha - Please support Bill 79
which prohibits genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in/on Hawaii Island. I realize this does
not affect the GMO crop - Papaya - already in commercial production on Hawaii Island. I am
writing as an individual who is a Kona coffee farmer (3 acre coffee farm) who is also a
commercial fruit and vegetable farmer. I am opposed to the introduction of GMO crops in any
form to the Island of Hawaii. The actual and potential negative affects of GMOs on a
fragile environment such as exists on an island are too serious to play with. Please support
Bill 79 -for farmers- for all of us who live here.
I live here and care about our environment, our future and our food.. I am an active member
of the Kona County Farm Bureau, a life member of Hawaii Organic Farmers Association and
an involved member of Kona Coffee Farmers Association, Tropical Fruit Growers and the
Hawaii Farmers Union United - Kona . I care about and am involved in this community. I am in
District 8 and Karen Eoff is my Council Person.
