My name is Andrew Quine, I was born and raised on Maui . I now attend school at
iniversity of California Santa Barbara studying Environmental Science. This proposed bill
is directly aimed at the common welfare of the citizens who occupy this majestic island
chain. Throughout hawaii ' s history we have seen many attempts at bettering the env_ronrteot
that have ended up having catastrophic consequence such as the introduction of foreign
n;,cies such as the mongoose, which have had a far worse affect on the land and natural
ecosystem than any benefit it provided. I am asking the public officials who we have
elected into office to represent the best interests of the people, to take a step back and
examine the possible negative effects this genetically modified organisms may have on our
,ntirosnment , ourselves and our future generations . Please weigh the pro' s and con's of
allowing this company to operate in Hawaii . Because of the limited information Monsanto
has _lowed the public to view, there is little scientific evidence to show weather this
altercation of food crops is harmful or beneficial. I ask you with all my heart to
postpone the development of monsanto facilities and operations within the state of Hawaii
until there is significant research has been done in order to come to an educated
decision.
