SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT:
SECTION 24-302 — 35 MILE PER HOUR LIMIT— PRIVATE STREETS
We request the Hawai'i County Code, Chapter 24, Article 11 (Schedules - Private Streets),
Division 1 (Speed Limits), Section 24-302, Schedule 6 (Reserved) be amended to read as
follows:
Section 24-302. Schedule 6. Reserved- 35 MILE PER HOUR LIMIT.
A SPEED LIMIT OF THIRTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR IS ESTABLISHED AS SET
FORTH IN THIS SCHEDULE UPON THE PRIVATE STREETS OR PORTIONS OF PRIVATE
STREETS AS FOLLOWS:
(A) HAMAKUA
(B) NORTH HILO
(C) SOUTH HILO
(D) KA`U
(E) KOHALA
(F) KONA
(G) PUNA
( ) HAWAIIAN PARADISE PARK SUBDIVISION, SHOWER DRIVE, KALOLI
DRIVE, PARADISE DRIVE AND MAKU`U DRIVE.
This amendment was generated due to a request by the Hawaiian Paradise Park
Owners Association. The request was to establish speed limits in the Hawai`i County
Code for the Hawaiian Paradise Park Subdivision so said speed limits can be properly
enforced by the police.

Pursuant to Section 24-2 of the Hawaii County Code, the County shall not be responsible for
the maintenance and repair of any private street, highway, or thoroughfare when it imposes or
enforces traffic regulations and highway safety laws on that private street, highway, or
thoroughfare.
