Re: Testimony in Support of Duane Kanuha for Planning Director
Honorable Councilpersons, please confirm Duane Kanuha's appointment as Planning Director.
I have worked with Duane in a variety of capacities since at least 1976 and know that he is well
qualified for the job. Because of his long experience in the planning field, he has a very sound
knowledge of the principles and process of land use in Hawaii, both from a public as well as private
perspective.
He knows this island's physical and cultural environment not just from a theoretical, academic
perspective, but as they say, "on the ground, the ground truth". Duane thinks comprehensively; he
walks around an issue 360 degrees, considering all aspects before coming to a decision.
I think this County needs his smarts and skills.
