Thank you for the Immediate Past President opportunity to testify on the proposed budget. Today I am speaking on behalf of the over Mealoha Kraus,REALTOR@(S) 500 members of Hawaii Island Realtors(HIR). We have followed the issue of property taxes Directors through many administrations. We supported the most recent property tax increase a few years Darren Ah Chong,REALTOR@(B) ago. Many of our members were not happy with that decision but our meetings with council ABR,CRS,GRI members at that time and Mayor Kenoi helped us to understand why it was the right thing to Evan Catherine"Cathy"R y"Feda ,RE do. Peggy Yuan,REALTOR@(B) We attended hearings the previous council had on that report. We watch with interest the ABR,CIPS,CRS,GRI Mayor's cautioning of the need to increase property taxes and we note the many necessary Interim Executive Officer items in this budget. Kehaulani Costa We realize that the new budget year is starting in July and many of you have only been on the Ashley Executive Assistant Mejia council since November but we are curious as to what is happening with the many quality recommendations that were made in the March 2012 report. Receptionist Cheryl Sanderhill We further read with interest the creation of a task force to study property tax rules. We note that there are no real estate practitioners on that task force. There is one appraiser,but it is the real estate agent community that is most familiar with the consumer perspective of the impacts of property tax for homeowners, renters, landlords, and investors. The real estate agent community is strongly qualified to assist on this task force with our firsthand knowledge of a broad range of community infrastructure needs and we are cognizant of the important role that property taxes fulfill in funding so much of our basic county infrastructure which supports our housing and other social needs.
