I was walking the road with long pants, and sneakers when my left foot slid on some gravel, causing me to land on my right knee. This tore my new jeans and left my right knee quite bloody where it landed on the gravel. It is very sore today, and so are my back and neck from the jolt. There were at least two witnesses to this fall (Liz 5tabo and Bill Forster), and it was reported verbally to Mr. Enriques and Mr. Onishi, as well as to the County Council Hearing in Naalehu, which followed the site inspection. I did want to let Hawaii County know about this because of the fact that this is a public road which has not been maintained at all, and is as such a liability. Comm. No, 90/. 02 Ref.To: P/PC 11/12/2010 Ref. Date IAN CI 2011 Clear Day Page 2 of 2 If I had been injured more than I was, a doctor or hospital bill might have been presented to the County. I was thinking to myself, what if I had gone down into the lower part of the road where it's impassible by vehicle, walked out to the lava flow and had broken an ankle? Could the EMT's have reached me there? This concerns me both as a taxpayer, and as a hiker. This road must be closed to the public until it is properly maintained by the county; or until a decision is reached concerning the ownership of the road. Thank you for registering my complaint.
