Subject: Letter of Recommendation for Mr. Duane Kanuha
Dear Mr. Yoshimoto:
It is my understanding Mr. Duane Kanuha has been selected for appointment to the position of
Director of Planning for Hawaii County. I have known Mr. Kanuha for nearly four years and
served with him during his tenure as a member of the Hawaii State Land Use Commission.
During our time working together on the commission and as practicing professionals in the field
of urban planning I came to realize and benefit from Mr. Kanuha's experience. I know that many
of the petitions and discussions with applicants during the commission hearing process benefited
from his experience and approach in defining conditions and putting in context the benefits and
impacts projects could place on communities.
I think Hawaii County will benefit from Mr. Kanuha's experience and professionalism and
strongly endorse and support his appointment as the Director of Planning. Should you have any
