Dear Chair Yoshimoto and Members of Hawaii County Council:
Please accept this letter in strong support of the appointment of Duane Kanuha as the
Planning Director of Hawaii County. I have known Duane for the past 9 years and have
worked closely with him on several occasions. During this time, he has demonstrated a
strong commitment to public service and in enhancing our communities.
Throughout his tenure as a commissioner on the Land Use Commission ("LUC") and as
the Chair of the LUC, his leadership skills helped the commission in weighing hard
decisions and making ethical judgments without prejudice.
Duane is hard working and keeps a good attitude and a gentle spirit. He is committed to
improving our communities and is highly qualified to make a difference in our beautiful
State. I respectfully ask that you consider Duane for the position of Planning Director.
